A  heavily armed young man barged into a  high school in Parkland, Fla. and opened fire, killing at least 17 people. Just seven weeks into 2018, the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, is already the 18th school shooting of the year.
Students will come to school with many feeling about this event. Many teachers will want to use this news event to learn about related civics issues. KQED provides teachers with ideas to make this a valuable lesson.
