01 Feb 2018 2:14 PM | Dr. Margaret Hill (Administrator)

February 2018
CDE History Social Science Update

This month's H-SS Newsletter provides background information on 3 pieces of proposed legislation with an impact on H-SS. AB761 calls for optional local assessment of student H-SS achievement. SB895 calls for the development of a model curriculum related to the Vietnamese American refugee experience. SB830 calls for the development of a model curriculum in media literacy.

In addition, there is a list of conferences for H-SS teachers this spring and summer. These begin with a mention of the CCSS conference  March 23-25 at the Town And Country Resort and Convention Center in San Diego. Then a list of dates is provided for the H-SS Framework conferences in the state sponsored by both the CA H-SSP and the CCSESSA
The previous conferences descriptions are followed by descriptions of some summer programs including those by Gilder Lehrman, Library of Congress, American Bar Association, and the Councils on Economic Education. Lastly there are links to a selection of new resources and holidays.
