Studies of the 20thc. have found that the last 100 years has seen
more people die through genocide and state-sanctioned murder
than on the century’s many battlefields. Effectively responding to
genocide, ethnic violence, and abuses of human rights is a
primary challenge of our day.
Communities and schools deal daily
with people who have lived through the experience.

The California History-Social Science Framework includes study
of the Holocaust and other genocides in recent history. The goal
is to learn why these atrocities happened, how they can be
prevented, and what can be done to help the victims. The
hardest part is rebuilding societies and trust among people
and institutions.
Though the atrocities themselves are discussed,
the major focus of Justice After Genocide is how we as a
community of people and nations can rebuild societies and
create trust in neighbors, government, and the future.
Facing History and Ourselves will share lessons, resources,
and discussion strategies.

Watch the video of the Genocide in Rwanda World Affairs
Council-Loma Linda University program from May 28, 2019.

the horrendous Rwandan Genocide.
