Studies of the 20thc. have found that the last 100 years has seen more people die through genocide and state-sanctioned murder than on the century’s many battlefields. Effectively responding to genocide, ethnic violence, and abuses of human rights is a primary challenge of our day. We have found that when we fail to act, the outcome becomes worse.

The California History-Social Science Framework includes study of the Holocaust and other genocides in recent history. The goal is to learn why they happened and what can be done to help the victims and promote justice. Sadly, these issues apply to youth and others in our own communities today as well as in history.

the World Affairs Council Inland Southern California, University of Redlands,
and the Inland Empire Council for the Social Studies
